Praise

Strathcona County Museum & Archives is proud to announce their latest special exhibit: Praise, showcasing the past and present of area churches.

Churches were an important aspect of pioneer life.  Soon after settlers arrived in Strathcona County, they began to worship with like-minded individuals.  These gatherings were first held in private homes, then in community buildings, such as schools.  As more people arrived, houses of worship were built.  These buildings soon became a focal point for gatherings in the community for suppers, socials, and groups like Scout and Girl Guides.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the churches and their members who graciously gathered information and items displayed in the exhibit: Ardrossan United Church, Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, Salisbury United Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sherwood Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and Sherwood Park United Church.

On display until January 30, 2015.
